I have a story to tell, and I just need to get it out!

Once upon a time, about 2 and a half years ago, there was this mom who was desperate for a change.

SPOILER ALERT! (It was ME!)

I was slowly gaining weight and losing every last shred of self-confidence I had – which wasn’t much to begin with. I was seriously considering just giving up and resigning myself to what I thought was inevitable: stretchy waistbands and spending the rest of my life on the couch trying to convince myself that it didn’t matter. Who cares!?

I cared.

I decided to do something about it – one last BIG effort to see what could happen if I really gave it my all! I knew about Beachbody and Shakeology through my good friend Jenelle Summers (who had also introduced this whole coaching business to me – which I did not understand at the time). I wanted to try Shakeology and some new fitness programs, but I was reluctant to spend that kind of money and I was VERY skeptical of Shakeology, but intrigued enough to try it and see – expecting to chalk it up as a big, dumb mistake!

Then, I did something really CRAZY! Despite warnings from my friends and family that it was a big scam and a pyramid scheme (SCARY!), I signed up as a coach simply so I could save 25% on my big dumb mistake!

What happened next blew my mind! In my first 3-6 months, I lost 24 pounds, about 20 inches and felt better than I had ever felt in my life!

And something else. I was running these support groups for my friends and family members to keep pyramid_schememyself on track, and they were losing weight and getting fit and healthy, too! I was HOOKED! I had found my passion! And I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up! A Beachbody Coach! *Oh, and nothing bad happened. It wasn’t a scam or a big scary scheme after all!

I have hosted at least one support group every month since I started and the transformations I’ve witnessed are UN-f’n-believable!! It’s the most amazing feeling to be part of that! I have a basic need to help people, and coaching fulfills that need for me! This is why I get up in the morning, excited to get to work!

I wholeheartedly believe in these products and programs because I’ve seen first hand how they’ve changed people’s lives – including mine!

I’m just a regular ol’ mom of four amazing kids, wife of my high school sweetheart, and former first grade teacher who took a giant leap of faith and boy did it pay off – BIG time! I work part time hours, at home, with my kids, when I want, where I want and how I want. Just 2 years after starting, I now make as much moo-la as I did working full time as a teacher, spending my days with other people’s kids. I am proof that anyone can do this!

And what’s SUPER awesome is that I have this whole amazing team of coaches, with the same passion and drive, and we are having 10 tons of fun growing our businesses together! Some of them I’ve never even met in person! But I will SOON and I absolutely canNOT wait!

To be OK with the body you have…

ARE YOU COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN?

This is unbelievably HARD for me to post, but it’s like peeling off a band-aid before summer, and swimsuit season. I know everyone has their ‘thing’, and this is mine.

This is the thing that makes me cringe, and avoid the mirror. I’ve been working really hard to get past feeling insecure and self-conscious, and this is part of that process for me!

3 years ago I wouldn’t have DREAMED of wearing a bikini to the pool or the beach…NO WAY! Not with this “thing” on my belly. (Kids refer to it as a “butt” and giggle. I pretend it doesn’t bother me, but it does.)

I’ve spent the last 2 1/2 years working on ME. Getting fit, and making my health a priority has not only changed my body physically, but for the first time I’ve started feeling more comfortable in my own skin! My confidence and self esteem have improved drastically! So, even though it’s NOT easy…I WILL wear my bikini this summer – not to ‘flaunt’ anything, but to practice being OK with my whole self!

This scar is my badge of honor, for bringing 4 wonderful people into this world. It’s just part of who I am now. I continue working hard EVERY day to be OK with the body I have: every wrinkle, stretch mark, scar and freckle.

For me, that means controlling what I CAN: working out every day, and fueling my body with the kinds of foods that make me feel better, stronger and have enough energy to do everything I need to do, every day, with a smile on my face!

Will I ever have a 6-pack? Nope. But that’s not my goal. I’m just trying be as healthy as I can, so that I can wear that bikini with my head held high!

Summer BODies Forming NOW!

Now that we’re THIS close to spring…my mind naturally goes to end-of-summer-quotes-pinterest-3SUMMER! It’ll be here before we know it! So…are you ready? Have you pulled out those shorts from last season. UGH! I don’t know about you…but how many times have I tried on last year’s clothes only to find out they don’t fit!!! Is there anything worse than that?

No. There isn’t.

I have spent spring days on my bed, just about in tears, because every article of clothing I pulled out of the box from the basement was either too tight, too small or too short. How could that happen in just 6 short months?! SO frustrating!

But we’ve got time! And where there’s a will, there’s a way! You provide the WILL, and I’ll provide the WAY!

How to Get Kids to Eat Their Veggies!

This idea is really going to blow your mind! I mean…it’s just so BIG and ingenious, I can’t wait to share it with you…

If there is one thing that I’ve learned in my 15 years as a parent and another 7 years as an educator…kids are opportunists! And we as parents can use that to our advantage!

My kids will generally eat veggies when they are cooked and put on their plates for dinner. It can take some doing, and some kids are more receptive than others, but we have some sorta veggie at most every dinner. And usually something GREEN at that! My mom was a firm believer that every dinner plate needed something green on it! Even if that meant double (or TRIPLE) veggies, because she had already cooked carrots and cauliflower! If she looked down at the plate and didn’t see something green…she’d whip up a salad and sleep better at night! 😉

I guess that stuck. Because I kinda feel the same way. My body needs GREEN veggies!

My kids don’t feel that way…yet! But we’re working on it. Every day.

Raw veggies are something that most of my kids tend shy away from, usually. I do have one child who will eat most any veggie: cooked, raw, red, green, etc. She’s my salad eater. If I make myself a salad, she wants one too. Of course she wants hers slathered in ranch dressing, but that’s an issue for another day.

So in my challenge group the other day, I challenged my participants to set out some healthy snacks, like fruits and veggies, and just make them available to their kids without even suggesting they eat it. I decided to catch my project on hidden camera, and my kids played RIGHT into it! When they saw this video later, they all laughed and applauded my sneakiness! Take a look:

The bottom line is that if we make healthy foods available, easy to access, kids WILL go for it! Maybe not every time, but I believe over time you’ll see them grabbing foods you thought they might never eat on their own. No need to force or persuade. Just put them on your counter and see what happens. A good time for this is after school. Kids come home starving and start looking for quick snacks to stuff in their face. If there’s food RIGHT there, that they don’t have to search for, or prepare…chances are good that they’ll take the easy opportunity!

February – Short Month – BIG Goals!

So…I’m about one and a half weeks away from finishing up Body Beast! I will definitely be repeating this program. I have REALLY loved it! My only regret is that I didn’t chart my progress very well throughoutbeast_flex the last 3 months. Boo for me! I’m always STRESSING this in my challenge groups, and then I don’t follow my own recommendations! Really dumb move on my part! BUT…I know I’ve made progress! I flexed in front of the mirror the other day and surprised myself! Where did those arms come from?

marathon_finishOver the summer, when I was training for the Chicago Marathon, strength training sort of took a back seat. Being a busy mom of 4 AND training for a marathon takes a LOT of time! But I really missed lifting weights and could ‘weight’ to get back to it! (See what I did there? As you can see…my arms aren’t looking particularly ‘ripped’ in my marathon picture! 🙂 And that’s one of the great things about weight-training, you can really see results FAST! And in a couple of weeks…I’ll be starting my NEXT program…21 Day Fix EXTREME! (More about that later!)

So, now that I am in the ‘off season’, I’ve had time to do Body Beast AND work in some runs each week, too! I truly love to do BOTH!

Back in December, I did a fun little challenge to see if I could run 50 miles during the month. It was such a silly little thing, but it turned out to be VERY motivating! It was fun to tick off the miles as I went! And doing it in such a busy month, while living in Michigan in the winter…well…I was feeling pretty good about it!

So I’m doing it again!!!

50 miles in 28 days is totally do-able! It’s only an average of 1.8 miles per day!

I’ll have a group on Facebook for the month to help us keep track, stay motivated and cheer each other on until we reach our goal!
